Phineas ("Phinny" or "Phinn") is a 3-year-old Papillon who weighs 12 lbs. He is a sweet and smart boy looking for an experienced dog owner. Please read his full profile to ensure that you understand his needs before applying.

Phinny is house-trained. He is very snuggly and prefers to sleep in bed with his foster mom or on the couch amid a mountain of pillows. He loves walks, car rides, playing with small/medium dogs, hanging out in the yard, and perching on the back of the couch to look out the window. Phinny is a "talker" and will bark at noises and people outside, so he would not be the best fit for an apartment.

IMPORTANT: Phinny does not like to be petted unless he initiates it. If you pet him without an invitation, he will growl to warn you to stop. If someone startles him, he may snap at them. When he's ready to be petted, he will let you know by putting his head under your hand, giving you kisses, or rolling onto his back to request a belly rub. He has a dog bed in a quiet corner of his foster home, and he enjoys hanging out there when he needs some space.

Due to these issues, Phinny needs to be in a home with no children (teens would be fine). We think his growling is due to fear, and it will be very important that Phinny's new family takes the time to build trust. An ideal adopter for Phinny will know how to read dog body language, as Phinny is very good at communicating when he does not like something if you recognize his cues. For the person or family who is willing to invest the time to work with him and earn his trust, Phinny will be a wonderful companion. If that's you, please apply to meet him today!

If you are interested in meeting Phineas, complete the Adoption Application on our website at www.NeedyPaws.org and we will contact you. Adopters must live within an hour’s drive of St. Louis, MO.

Phineas’s adoption fee is $250.00, which includes up-to-date vaccinations, heartworm testing and preventative, spay/neuter and microchip.

We are a 100% foster-based rescue and all of our dogs live in approved foster homes. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will perform home visits and conduct veterinarian and reference checks for each potential adopter.
